Webinar: ESA Copernicus programme products… now over
On 22 January 2026, the Space Technology Park, in collaboration with the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography, Baltic Satellite Services Latvia and the European Space Agency, organised a webinar on the ESA Copernicus programme’s products for monitoring ecosystem services.
The webinar was part of the promotional and educational activities carried out as part of the EO-BALP-CCN1 project. This project, which focuses on issues related to landscape and ecosystem services, is a continuation of an initiative launched in 2019–2021 as part of the MONiCA project, dedicated to the potential for environmental monitoring supported by satellite data from the Copernicus programme.
The rapid development of satellite imaging techniques – encompassing high-resolution optical observations as well as multispectral and radar imagery – has enabled a shift from the creation of land cover maps (now multi-temporal datasets) to the advanced monitoring of ecological processes.
The extensive range of imagery products from the ESA’s Copernicus mission, along with ready-to-use geoinformation products and their derivatives, constitutes an invaluable tool for environmental research. The Copernicus Sentinel satellites measure and image our planet in a variety of ways, yielding a wealth of diverse and often complementary information, where the only limit to their creative use is the imagination.
The meeting was chaired by Jarosław Januszewski, who outlined the project concept and introduced the speakers. The webinar featured presentations by Konrad Wróblewski, Wiktor Mróz and Julia Baranowska from the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography, who outlined the range of available ESA Copernicus products and their potential application in monitoring ecosystem services in the Lubuskie Province.
The webinar was concluded by Katarzyna Cheba, CEO of the Space Technology Park, who discussed the Space Systems Development Partnership – ICT materials and technologies within the framework of the Lubuskie Smart Specialisation: Innovative Industry, and encouraged participants to join the initiative.
The meeting was attended by 27 people. Thank you for coming!
